How to maintain your physical strength and health in an aging society?

2021年3月13日

This blog is a record of the 10,000 days of spectacular training of the blog author, which was launched on March 3, 2021 at the age of 62.

Musashi Miyamoto, the Great Swordsman in Japan, wrote in “the Book of Five Rings" that “thousand days of training will be used for “Tan" meaning training the mind and body, and ten thousand days of training will be used for “Ren" meaning raising the ideal mind and body."
Kyokushin’s Great Master, Mas Oyama who respect Musashi Miyamoto told us “Thousand days of training is the Beginning, and Ten thousand days of training is the Ultimate."

10,000 days are 27 years and 145 days, it will take until 2048 when the blog author is just 90 years old. How old will everyone who is viewing this blog be about 27 years from now?

From now, I would like to challenge “The Way of Kyokushin Karate through the whole life" that can be continued well until the age of 90, and at the same time pursue the dream of “the Strongest Karate in the world".

In this blog, I will write about “The Way of Kyokushin Karate through the whole life" and “The Strongest Karate in the world".
I will write about these two big themes further along with five themes that my interests.

You can think of this blog as an old man’s monologue, so please feel free to view.

I think that it is important for middle-aged and elderly Kyokushin Karate to have fun and exercise at your own pace while keeping the rigor of martial arts in your mind for your health and to continue for a long time. (Mas Oyama said that full-contact of “Kumite" is up to 35 years old)

The five sub themes that I am interested in are “Kyokushin", “Jiu-Jitsu", “Boxing", “Dance" and “Meditation".

First, Kyokushin Karate is my all at my youth and is the basic martial art for maintaining physical and mental health throughout my life.

I am very interested in Jiu-Jitsu because my ancestors are the Jiu-Jitsu instructor in the local clan about 200 years ago in Japan, and it is an essential martial art to supplement the weaknesses of striking martial arts such as Karate.

I’m also interested in boxing because my father wanted to be a professional boxer.
Someone says that the full-contact Karate match like Kyokushin are vulnerable to facial punches because they don’t hit the face by hand, but actually, we practice attacking and defending the face at Kyokushin Karate dojo. I will explain again that why Mas Oyama made the full-contact rule for the Karate tournament.

Regarding dance, Mas Oyama said, “The traditional Karate is mainly on linear movements, so I learned the ballroom dancing to incorporate the movement of circles for Kumite. Ballroom dancing also helps to acquire a sense of rhythm." So I’d like to learn the dance in order to incorporate the movement of the circle into my Karate.
And Mas Oyama said “The dancer is strong in fight." (An ordinary Karate-ka cannot keep up with the movements of dancer, so it’s dificult to attack.)

In addition, Musashi Miyamoto wrote in the “The Book of Five Rings" that time signature (rhythm) is important for battle.

Meditation is an advanced practice of the mind (control of the mind), unlike the practice of moving the body. Knowing your true self (subconscious, deep consciousness grasping and liberation), self-reform and self-actualization is a necessary practice, but under the guidance of a correct meditation teacher.
I don’t recommend doing it in your own way, but let’s start with the “Breath counting meditation" that is also doing in Zen meditation in Japan. Famous swordsmen and Martial artists have incorporated zazen meditation into their training.

In addition, in order to understand the “The Book of Five Rings" by swordsman Musashi Miyamoto as much as possible, I will write it as far as I can understand it in Iaido (swordsmanship).

Also, I would like to write about nutrition (supplements), which is the most important for health, while studying the latest nutrition.

If you are interested, let’s experience, learn and practice with me and aim for healthy life.

* “Five Rings Club" is named from “The Book of Five Rings" written by Musashi Miyamoto.
